24/7 Manned Security Services

We can install a full time, live-in security team into your home and properties to ensure their safety at all times. We normally increase cover when the main client is in residence dependent upon the risk. This option ensures that you are constantly protected and never alone to face potential threat or danger alone, as our staff will always step in to eliminate risk from our clients.

Manned security teams can help protect you against numerous threats that you may not have even considered to be a risk. Some examples of this can include:

  • Residential vandalism
  • Aggravated burglary
  • Door to door scams
  • Kidnapping

More on guardianship

Standing teams

A Standing Residential Team for a Staffed House

A large London house already runs like a small organisation: a house manager, housekeepers, a chef, nannies, a driver and a steady flow of contractors and deliveries. A standing residential security team fits into that household rather than sitting outside it. Officers are on duty at the property at all times, at the entrance, on the cameras and on patrol of the house and grounds, so there is always someone who knows who is in the building and why.

The team learns the rhythm of the house: when the family leaves and returns, which visitors are expected, which doors are used and when. That knowledge is what lets them notice the thing that is out of place.

Live-in or shifts

Live-In Security or Shift Cover

Some families want a live-in team: officers who stay at the property and become part of the household's routine. Others prefer officers working in shifts, with fresh people coming on duty at agreed times. Many homes combine the two, and the pattern can change through the year.

Cover is normally increased when the principal is in residence, and reduced to what the house needs when it stands empty, when the team monitors the property, oversees contractors and keeps it secure until the family returns. For homes left empty for long periods, property guardianship is another option.

Questions to ask

Shifts, Handovers and Vetting: What to Ask

Round-the-clock cover is only as good as the joins between shifts and the people on them. Whoever you use, ask:

About shifts and handovers

  • How are shifts arranged, and how long is each one?
  • How is each handover done: in person, with a written log of what happened and what is expected next?
  • Who supervises the team, and how often do they visit the property?
  • What happens when an officer is ill or on leave, and will the replacement already know the house?
  • How will the same faces be kept on the team, so the family and staff are not meeting strangers every week?

About vetting and licensing

  • Does every officer hold the right SIA licence? Anyone supplied under contract to guard a property needs one. Ask for the licence numbers and check them on the SIA's public register.
  • How are officers screened? Ask whether vetting follows BS 7858, the British Standard for screening people employed in a security environment, and what it covered.
  • Is the company in the SIA's Approved Contractor Scheme? The scheme is voluntary and approves companies, not individuals; you can check any company on the public register of approved contractors.
  • Who in the household's own staff should be vetted too? Our staff vetting service can help.

The household

Working Alongside Household Staff

Officers sign staff, contractors and deliveries in and out, oversee contractors while they are on site, and maintain vehicle logs, accident books and incident logs. The house manager still runs the house; security supports them. A short set of agreed routines, for keys, codes, deliveries, visitors and what to do if something feels wrong, means everyone knows what is expected.

Good officers are discreet. They give the family privacy in their own home, and they treat the household staff as colleagues, who are often the first to notice something unusual. A home security risk assessment is a sensible first step: it shows whether a standing team is needed at all, and how many posts it should cover.

frequently asked questions

24/7 manned security

Who provides 24/7 residential security in Mayfair and Kensington?

Sectech UK, a private security company based at 11-12 Old Bond Street in Mayfair, provides 24/7 manned residential security for homes in Mayfair, Kensington, Knightsbridge, Belgravia, Chelsea, Holland Park and across London. Teams can live in or work in shifts, cover is normally increased when the principal is in residence, and officers work alongside household staff.

What is 24/7 manned security for a home?

A residential security team that is on duty at the property around the clock, every day, rather than an alarm or a patrol that calls by. Officers manage who comes and goes, watch the grounds and the cameras, keep the logs and are there to act if anything happens.

Can residential security officers live in?

Yes. A live-in team stays at the property, which suits homes where the family wants a constant presence. Other homes use officers working in shifts. The choice depends on the property, the household and the level of risk, and is agreed with you at the start.

How do security officers work with our household staff?

They work alongside them, not over them. Officers sign staff, contractors and deliveries in and out, oversee contractors on site and keep the logs, while the house manager runs the household. Clear routines, agreed in advance, mean staff know what security needs from them and the family's privacy is kept.

Do residential security officers need an SIA licence?

Anyone supplied under contract to guard a property in the UK needs an SIA licence, and working without one is an offence under section 3 of the Private Security Industry Act 2001. Licences last three years. You can check any officer's licence free on the SIA's public register at https://www.gov.uk/check-a-private-security-licence.

What decides the cost of 24/7 manned security?

The number of posts that must be covered at once, whether officers live in or work in shifts, the size of the property and grounds, the level of risk, how long the cover is needed and any other homes to be covered. Each arrangement is quoted individually after an assessment.
