More phone-hacking allegations have emerged, this time involving Mirror Group Newspapers and Heather Mills, the former wife of Sir Paul McCartney.
She has claimed in a BBC interview that a senior journalist at the company admitted hacking into her phone. Not regarded as the most reliable witness in the world by many it would be easy to dismiss Mills’ claims as publicity seeking however her claim has support from unlikely quarters in the form of the Mirror’s former editor, Piers Morgan. Mr. Morgan in 2006 quoted that he heard a voicemail on Heather Mills’ mobile that was emotional and almost heartbreaking.
So it seems that Trinity Mirror have entered the fray. They responded to the allegation by saying: “Our position is clear. All our journalists work within the criminal law and the PCC [Press Complaints Commission] code of conduct.”
I think that translates as, “If you get caught you’re on your own and we won’t be seen to support you
